Before filming, we discussed ways which we could stylize the artist appropriately according to the genre of music, being rap. We began looking at artist from this genre and gathered notes on what made their look stand out and how it can influence other artist such as our one.
First of all we started with The Hair.
The Hairstyle
Now this is our Rappers hair without any styling such as gel. Short hair is associated with rap making our Artists' hair suitable immediately as long hair is usually associated with rock, metal and pop for example Eminem and Justin Bieber respectively.
So after researching and analysing all types of hairstyles in the rap scene we narrowed down the possibilities. The Artist objected to a comb-over like Devlin(Left) or the extreme of baldness like English Frank(Right).
Verdict: Stay the same
Facial Hair Style
A mans facial hair can say a lot about the type of person he is believe it or not. We found that most Rappers have facial hair, obviously to show some sort of manlihood or in some cases having a extravagant style to set a new trend. Here are some examples of Beards in the Rap Scene.
1. The Super Thin Mustache
Designed by Dappy, copied by Scorcher. Simple to create if you have a thicker mustache. However, not very appealing and as these two rappers started the trend, it would imply that our artist wants to look like someone who got caught taking illegal drugs in a club and posed naked on Twitter (DAPPY!) or someone who was to blame for Urban Website Grimedaily being shut down temporarily last year because in one of his videos his mate flicked out a long knife (SCORCHER!)1. Verdict: No
2. The Big "Boss" Beard
Also known as the "Rick Ross" Beard. It works for Rick Ross(Left) as it's part of his unique image but anyone else who attempts will always be called a "Fake" Rick Ross due to Rick Ross's fame like Unpopular English rapper Pak-Man(Right). Not ideal as it would have taken Adam years to grow. The beard signifies superiority, maturity and boldness.
Verdict: Big No
3. Rugged mustache and goatee
The rugged unshaven beard (bum-fluff) implies a lack of care, lack of vanity, lack of interest for your image. It shows a "hardness", a word used in the underground scene for someone who has a buzz with no gimmicks, just straight up "hard" music.
Rappers Benny Banks(Left), K-Koke and Professor Green all go for this look, therefore our artist Noxious will follow the trend. Noxious - Today I Cried is against mainstream, and the lyrics show that he wears his heart on his sleeve. A mainstream artist would usually talk about dancing, girls, money, drink and cars in the rap scene, but this song contradicts the typical conventions of a rap lyrics. Therefore his image should match what he stands for: no gimmicks, straight "hard" lyrics.
Verdict: Yes!
AND HERE IS ADAM (AS NOXIOUS) WITH HIS NEW STYLIZED FACIAL HAIR...
